Many of these have lots to offer! Most of them have several
databases that can be really helpful with your assignments. Some of
the databases are duplicated at various libraries, but others may be
unique to a library.
Public
Library Information
All you need to do is
have a Library Card. Have it with you when you make a virtual
visit to the Library, so you can use the card number (14 digits) as
the password to use the databases. Most of the libraries in this
area offer reciprocal privileges to residents of other towns or
counties in the area, which means that you are welcome to have a
card for their library even if you live elsewhere. Some of them
allow you to apply for your card online.
If you need some help when you begin to use these, please come ask
someone in the AHC Library or in the Computer Center or make an
actual visit to the public library and ask for help there. Some of
the databases and indexes may not seem as easy as using a familiar
search engine at first, but you probably will find more good
information and come up with fewer useless hits, so your homework
may take less time in the long run!
The assignments you turn in will probably have a higher degree of
credibility too!
Many of the databases also offer convenient ways to properly cite
your information that you have found on them. Your teachers should
love that part!
P. S. Don’t forget that you can check the catalogs and find things
to read, too!
Also available via many of the Library sites are links to various
Search Engines and Directories, some of which can be more effective
for some purposes than Google™, Ask Jeeves or Yahoo!®
