including topics such as self-esteem, nutrition, decision-making,
dealing with stress, the use and abuse of substances, conflict

Students learn the skills necessary for field sports, step
aerobics, juggling, and volleyball and participate in fitness
related activities such as aerobics, rope-jumping, and
recreational games. (1/2 credit)

Students develop good personal safety practices and learn physical
self-defense techniques. They learn the skills of two lifetime
sports: golf and archery. Students also participate in
recreational and physical fitness activities. (1/2 credit)

Conditioning: For the Health of It |

Each student designs and follows a conditioning program to improve
cardiovascular fitness, flexibility, muscle strength, and muscle
endurance. Students utilize the Academy’s fitness center. (1/2
credit)

Introduction to Sports
Medicine |
Grade 10-12: 1st
and 2nd Semester |

Sports Medicine
is designed for students interested in athletic training, physical
therapy, medicine, fitness, physiology of exercise and nutrition. Students will develop an understanding and practical application
of basic athletic training principles. Course includes both class
work and practical hands on application. Students will
receive the necessary training needed for working in the Student
Athletic Training program. The course requires
extracurricular commitment and will require you to observe in the
training room or on the field for 6 hours per quarter.

Physical Education Workshops |
Grade 11-12: 2nd
Semester |

Prerequisite: Health
Students experience several workshops and hear expert speakers in
areas related to health and physical education. Selected areas of
interest may include physical fitness programs and personal
trainers; adolescent alcohol abuse and smoking; adolescent stress
and depression; diversity and conflict resolution; sports
activities and clubs such as running, biking, and archery; skin
and hair care while engaged in sports activities; and other areas
as identified by student interest. (1/2 credit)
