AHC Library FAQs:

When is it open?

The Library opens at 7:15 on all days except Blue days, when it opens at 7:30.
The Library closes at 3:45 on Monday - Thursday, and at 3:30 on Friday.

Is there a photocopier?

Yes. Copies cost 10 cents per page.

Do you have computers?

There are 5 computers for the use of AHC students and faculty. They are here for you to use for school work only.

What about the Internet?

All computers in the Library are connected to the academic network, which offers a T1 connection to the Internet.

Are students allowed to eat and drink in the Library?

In a word, No.

I don’t really know how to look for information. Can I get help?

Yes. The Librarian and the Library Assistant are there to help. Additionally, there are several links available from this page which were selected because they may be of use to you.

How do I check out a book?

Bring your selection, taken from the circulating collection, to the front of the Library and one of us will help you.

How many books may I check out at one time?

There is no limit on the number of books that may be checked out.

Are there any books that can’t be checked out?

Yes. Students may not check out Reference books. Teachers sometimes check out Reference books for classroom use.

Do you have Reserve books?

Yes, teachers place items on Reserve for their students. Most of our Reserves are temporary, usually due to a long-term assignment for which many students will need the same titles.

How long may I keep books that I check out?

The circulation period is three (3) weeks.

What if I’m not finished by then?

It is your responsibility to bring them in to renew them. If there have been no other requests for them, you may renew for another three weeks.

What do you do if I keep them over three weeks?

That would make them overdue. We have no fines, but you will be notified of overdues via your Advisor. If you do not respond to the first notice, a letter is sent to your parents.

What if I lose a book?

We have a fee of $25.00 per book or the price of the book, whichever is higher.

What if I find the book after paying for it?

Your payment will be returned, minus a $5.00 handling fee.

What if our Library doesn’t have what I need?

We would suggest that you use an online catalog from another library to see if you can find it elsewhere. Again, please let us know if you need help.

Is it important to have a library card for a public library?

It is very important. Most public libraries have subscriptions to several online databases, many of which may be used remotely. To be able to do this, you must use your public library card number as your password. For more information, as well as links, please go to Public Libraries.
