AHC PRESIDENT

TITLE OF POSITION: President of The Academy of the Holy Cross and Chief Executive Officer  

REPORTS TO:  The President reports to the Chair of the Board of Trustees of The Academy of the Holy Cross.

 

 
 
 

PRIMARY FUNCTION:  The President, as the chief executive officer of The Academy of the Holy Cross, Inc; collaborates with the Board of Trustees and leads the AHC school community strategically to advance the mission of the Academy and to ensure relationships and financial resources that support the mission. The President is an ex-officio voting member of the Board.

SUPERVISORY DUTIES:  The following positions are direct reports to the President: the Principal, the Business Manager/CFO, the Director of Development, the Director of Communications, the Director of Campus Ministry, the Director of Admissions, the Director of Information Technology and the Human Resources Administrator.  

EXECUTIVE LEADERSHIP: The President acts as the liaison between the Academy community and the Board of Trustees and works directly with the Board to assure implementation of the strategic plan and board policy. The President appoints all personnel based on recommendations from appropriate administrators and approves recommendation for their salaries, promotions or dismissal. The President meets regularly with the principal who is the educational leader of the Academy. 

MISSION AND SPIRITUAL LEADERSHIP:  The President models Gospel values, keeps informed of  Catholic teaching and thinking, fosters the Holy Cross heritage and communicates the mission, philosophy and programs of the Academy of the Holy Cross to all constituencies. The President, together with the Principal, Director of Campus Ministry and other appropriate administrators, establishes and maintains an effective and positive climate in the school that supports the teachings of the Catholic Church and the charism of the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross.  

STRATEGIC PLANNING: The President directs the creation and implementation of strategic planning with the Board of Trustees and the Academy administrators and oversees both the short and long-range planning initiatives. The President works with the Director of Admissions and other administrators in assuring the principles of excellence, diversity and affordability in the student population. 

FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT: The President meets regularly with the Business Manager/CFO to oversee the preparation of the annual capital and operating budgets and budgetary system, to create financial plans for the Academy’s long-term needs and priorities in accord with strategic planning and to prioritize projects of buildings and grounds maintenance and development. 

INSTITUTIONAL ADVANCEMENT (Resources and Relationships): The President works with the Director of Development and provides leadership in all fundraising, development and stewardship projects for alumnae, parents and friends of the Academy. The President works with the Director of Communications and oversees marketing, public relations and publications to ensure the appropriate communication of the purpose and programs of the Academy.  The President is the chief spokesperson of the Academy, communicates the mission and goals, program and progress of the Academy to its various publics, and provides an active presence in the community including civic, religious and other public functions.

Responsibilities:

The authorities and duties of the President and Chief Executive Officer include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Implements the Roman Catholic church’s educational ministry for AHC and all its constituencies

  • Stewards the Holy Cross heritage and educational philosophy of the Sisters of the Holy Cross

A.   The CEO/President shall

  1. have all the authority of such a position in a business corporation and shall be a member of the Board of Trustees ex-officio with vote;

  2. shall be well qualified by education, experience, and personal qualities;

  3. shall have all authority and responsibility necessary to operate The Academy of the Holy Cross, Inc. in all its activities and departments according to the policies as may be adopted by the Board of Trustees or its Executive committee including the Congregation Polices for Corporate Organization and in compliance with the Code of Cannon Law;

  4. shall act as the duly authorized representative of the Board of Trustees and The Academy of the Holy Cross, Inc. in all matters in which the Board of Trustees has not formally designated some other person to act;

  5. shall report as directed to the Chair between Board meetings and to the Board of Trustees and the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees at each meeting of each of those bodies;

  6. shall be appointed by the Members of the Board of Trustees.
     

B. The President/CEO shall

  1. work with and support the Board of Trustees;

  2. appoint assistant or associate executives of AHC;

  3.  appoint, subject to the approval of the Board of Trustees, the Principal who assumes responsibilities in event of the President’s incapacity;

  4.  perform duties approved by the Board of Trustees;

  5. develop and direct an appropriate administrative organization;

  6. develop adequate plans and institute appropriate controls;

  7. prepare an annual budget;

  8. provide to the Board of Trustees periodic reports on academics, student life and financial activities and development program;

  9. develop and maintain personnel policies and practices as approved by the Board of Trustees;

  10. conduct employee relations according to policies;

  11. maintain AHC physical properties;

  12. supervise business affairs;

  13. work with faculty and staff to assure quality Roman Catholic education;

  14. serve as liaison officer between the Board of Trustees and faculty, administration and staff;

  15. participate in civil/professional activities as appropriate;

  16. file annual reports for the Congregation, diocesan, local, state and federal agencies and organizations;

  17. serve as chief spokesperson for the Academy.
