Summer Reading is not required for all courses.

 

10th Grade Honors Government / U.S. History:  

 

Read the following book:

 

Collier, Christopher and James Lincoln Collier. Decision in Philadelphia : The Constitutional Convention of 1787. New York : Ballantine, 2007.

 

Take notes and read it thoroughly, so you will be ready to discuss the book on day one of class. You will be tested on the material at the beginning of the year.

 

11th Grade Honors U.S. History:

 

Read the following book:

Read the following book:

 

Kurlansky, Mark . Salt: A World History. Penguin, 2003. ISBN 0142001619

Assignment:

Read the entire book for the first day of class. Highlight and take notes of what you are reading. Look up terms that are unfamiliar to you in the dictionary or on the Internet. Don’t just skip over them.

 

This book covers material that will be discussed in greater detail throughout the first quarter. A test covering the material in this book will be given at the beginning of the first week of school.


A.P. U.S. History:  

 

Read the following:

 

Chapters 6-19 of:

 

Taylor, Alan. American Colonies: The Settling of North America .   New York : Penguin, 2001.

 

Plus, the entire book:

 

Demos, John Putnam. The Unredeemed Captive: A Family Story from Early America . New York : Vintage, 1995.

 

Take notes and read the material from both books thoroughly. You will be required to discuss the books from day one of class and you will be tested on the material at the beginning of the year.   

 

A.P. U.S. Government and Politics:

 

Read the following book:


O'Connor, Sandra Day. The Majesty of the Law: Reflections of a Supreme Court Justice .  
New York :  Random House, 2003.

There will be an exam on this book the first week of school.
