Academic Honor Societies

Moreau Chapter of the National Honor Society - Membership into the National Honor Society is not an automatic. Students with a minimum grade point average are invited to apply after the first semester of their junior year. Selection is based on the Society's standards of scholarship, leadership, service, and character. Members are expected to uphold these standards throughout their time at the Academy. Membership incurs a responsibility and an obligation to demonstrate these qualities that result in selection. Members are also expected to attend meetings and participate in service projects, the most visible of which is peer tutoring. See membership details here.

Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica (Spanish Honor Society) was founded by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese AATSP in 1953, for the students of North American secondary schools. The Academy of the Holy Cross chapter, Capitulo Santa Teresa, was founded in 2000. Our motto is “Todos a Una” (all for one) and our colors are red and gold.

 

Société Honoraire de Français (French Honor Society) of The American Association of Teachers of French (AATF) was founded in 1927 and is the largest national association of French teachers in the world with nearly 10,000 members.

 

Societas Honoraria Linguae Latinae (Latin Honor Society) of The Association for the Promotion of the Study of Latin (APSL) is the nation's oldest private organization dedicated to the promotion and study of the Latin language. It was founded in 1929 by the late Dr. Albert E. Warsley. Students at The Academy of the Holy Cross must achieve a 90 or above quarter 4 of sophomore year and the first two quarters of junior year (or the equivalent levels of Latin) and take Latin for four years.

Science National Honor Society Mother Angela (Gillespie), CSC Chapter was founded in 2000 to encourage and recognize scientific and intellectual thought, advance students’ knowledge of classical and modern science, communicate with the scientific community, aid the civic community with its comprehension of science, and to encourage students to participate in community service and in turn, encourage a dedication to the pursuit of scientific knowledge that benefits all of mankind.

 

Computer Science Honor Society was established by the Computer Science Teacher Association to encourage secondary students’ enthusiasm for computer science, honor academic excellence, and promote service. The Academy of the Holy Cross chapter was established in 2024 to create a thriving environment for students who have taken an advanced computer science class, actively participate in one of the school's technology clubs, and collaborate in outreach activities.

Arts Honor Societies

The International Thespian Society honors excellence in high-school theatre. Students who have earned membership in this honor society have shown dedication to the theatre arts and the Holy Cross Performing Arts Department. Members of this society meet throughout the year to discuss events, workshops, special projects, and other ways to celebrate theatre within the Holy Cross Community. The Tri-M Music Honor Society is the international music honor society for middle/junior high and high school students. It is designed to recognize students for their academic and musical achievements, reward them for their accomplishments and service activities, and to inspire other students to excel at music and leadership.* This group meets regularly throughout the year to discuss and rehearse for performances, special projects, and other ways to celebrate music within the Holy Cross Community.
