College Day – Part II |
|
In January, AHC Class of 2008 seniors were
visited by over 30 AHC alumnae from the Class of 2007 to share their first
semester college experiences during College Day – Part I. On Thursday, February
14, the Classes of 2009, 2010 and 2011 attended College Day – Part II.
Representatives from 14 colleges and universities spent time in homeroom
advisories discussing topics such as application and admissions processes, and
choosing high school courses in preparation for college. Juniors and Sophomores
then attended panel discussions with the college reps in large groups. Freshmen
were introduced to the importance of transcripts and course selection, and
calculating GPA. |

AHC Seniors Get Advice on “Charting Their Course” |
|
The Class of 2008 gathered in the auditorium on
Thursday, February 14, for a multimedia presentation entitled, Charting Your
Course: A Guide to Self Leadership. The presentation offered advice about the
impact decisions have on long term goals. The video presented real life stories
of high school students demonstrating how poor choices had affected their lives.
Set to contemporary pop music, the stories told by the students in the video
helped the AHC seniors to understand that every choice can alter your ultimate
goal. The program left students with insight as to how to make good choices for
their future as well as a better understanding of the long term results of their
decisions. |

Swim Team Places Second at WMPSSDL |
|
The AHC Swim Team placed second overall in the
Washington Metropolitan Prep School Swim Dive League Championships held February
6-9 with 280 points. Nine individual awards were won by Tartans, two of which
were new school records set by a member of the class of 2011. Three AHC relays
also received recognition with fourth place in the 200 Medley, third in the 200
free and second in the 400 free. |

Lenten Service-Change for Change |
|
During Lent, students, faculty and staff are
collecting Change for Change. This CSC Office effort will collect change for
various charities during AHC lunch periods from Friday, February 8 through
Tuesday, March 18. The four charities benefiting from the collected funds are,
Operation Rice bowl, a Catholic Relief Services’ Lenten solidarity program,
Pennies for Patients, a local campaign of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society
designed to help families dealing with cancer, Really Awesome Times, a program
designed to assist children and families affected by HIV and AIDS, and The
Northwest Center, a local program that supports pregnant and parenting women in
need. |

Students Participate in the Maryland High School Theater Festival |
|
Over 60 Tartans participated in the Maryland High
School Theater Festival on Friday, February 8, at Blake High School. The
festival included workshops such as Mask making, Dance Combos, Audition
techniques, Vocal techniques and Improvisation, all of which were run by
professional theatre artists from the area. The four areas of competition at the
festival included Song Fest, Scene Fest, Dance Fest, and the Scholarship
competition. More than 30 Tartans competed and four awards were presented to AHC
students. |
