AHC Welcomes the Class of 2012

The lass of 2012 gathered for the first time on Thursday, April 3, 2008 for a Parent/Student orientation. Through this informational meeting, students were able to learn about the wonderful academic and co-curricular opportunities that will be available to them over the next four years. While for many families, this was all new information, some are already familiar with Holy Cross. Of the 150 incoming freshmen, 66 are legacy students, seven with mothers who are AHC alumnae and 33 with sisters presently at the Academy. Sister Katherine Kase, C.S.C., also took the time to recognize the students who received various scholarships. The 86 awards given made it obvious that the Class of 2012 is made up of a very talented group of young ladies.

Seniors Learn How to Stay Debt Free

Each year, financial planner Karen Schaeffer (Kaitlin ’99 and Megan ’01) visits AHC to offer the senior class advice about credit card debt, IRAs and most importantly, paying for college. In a country that has turned shopping into a recreational activity, Mrs. Schaeffer feels it is essential for students to understand when to spend and when to save. Students learned the importance of considering the cost of their education when deciding which school to attend. Mrs. Schaeffer recommends having no more than $20,000 of loans for all four years of school, an amount that should be paid back within two years of graduation. This entertaining and enlightening talk put the students at ease and allowed them to open up and ask questions about this oftentimes confusing topic.

Varsity Lacrosse Team Spends Spring Break in Disney World

After a 14 hour bus trip, the AHC Varsity Lacrosse team arrived in sunny Florida for Disney’s Lacrosse Spring training at Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex. Each day the Tartans practiced on one of the perfectly manicured fields of Bermuda grass alongside teams from all around the USA. They encountered some tough competition as they scrimmaged with schools from Pennsylvania and Ohio and even got to share the weight room with the Atlanta Braves! Although the athletes spent most of the trip training, practicing and competing, they were also able to enjoy some time bonding with their teammates, performing skits, participating in a scavenger hunt and exploring the Disney theme parks.
