Students, faculty and staff gathered as a community on
Wednesday, January 16, to honor Blessed Basil Moreau and prominent Sisters of
the Holy Cross. The celebration, commemorating Father Moreau’s feast day
(January 20) included prayer, singing, reflection and a special luncheon.
Students wrote virtue-themed New Year’s resolutions on stars which adorned the
walls at the luncheon. The advisories each decorated small trees with stars that
described the virtues held by the Sisters of the Holy Cross. Each class
president gave a brief presentation on a Sister of the Holy Cross describing the
virtues she demonstrated throughout her life. The luncheon ended with the
students, faculty, and staff joining together to sing “Cross of Our Hope,”
written by Steven Warner to for the Beatification of Basil Moreau. Quickly
becoming an AHC favorite, the song exemplifies the mission and virtues of Father
Moreau, the Sister of the Holy Cross, and The Academy of the Holy Cross.

AHC Tartans walked “Gingerbread Lane” on
Saturday, January 12, during the annual Winter Dance. Members of the Class of
2010, who sponsored the dance, filled the auditorium and hallways with
gingerbread-themed decorations to welcome the guests. Attendees greeted the
Academy’s administration as they arrived at the dance, introducing their dates
to chaperones. Guests then danced the night away to old and new favorite tunes.

As part of the application process for the incoming
Freshman class, The Academy of the Holy Cross interviewed each student applying
for the Class of 2012 and her parents during the past two weeks. More than 40
faculty and staff members conducted the interviews, each lasting approximately a
half-hour. Admissions interviews are an integral part of the Academy’s selection
process. |
