The Class of 2008 Says Goodbye to AHC at the Cap and Gown Ceremony

The Class of 2008 processed into the auditorium in full academic attire on Friday, May 23, to say good-bye to the students, faculty and staff at The Academy of the Holy Cross. As the last official time they will spend together as a class on AHC’s campus, the Cap and Gown Ceremony allows the Seniors to celebrate their accomplishments with the rest of the AHC community. During the ceremony Principal Mary Lynne Boss announced the names of those students who received special honors and awards and congratulated the Class of 2008 on their tremendous achievements throughout their years at AHC. Cap and Gown ended as both the Senior Class President and the Student Council President gave emotional speeches, reliving their years at AHC and thanking those who have helped them on their journey.

And the Award Goes to…

At the conclusion of each school year, AHC celebrates the accomplishments of its students with an Honors Awards Ceremony. The Ceremony for Seniors was held on Monday, May 19, with 91 members of the Class of 2008 receiving awards. AHC’s President, Sister Katherine Kase, C.S.C., and Principal Mary Lynne Boss, presented the awards to Tartans who excel in service, the arts, and academics. The Honors Awards Ceremony for the Classes of 2009, 2010, and 2011 was held on Thursday, May 22 where awards were presented to the underclasswomen for similar accomplishments.

The Class of 2008 Presents Their Senior Projects to the AHC Community

For three weeks at the end of each school year, the Senior Class at AHC participates in Senior Project, a career education co-curricular program designed to give students the opportunity to make more realistic decisions in terms of college and future career choices. Each student works with the Senior Project Coordinator to find an internship that best fits their interest and abilities. On Wednesday, May 21, the Class of 2008 returned to the Academy to share the experiences they have had working in government, law, the arts, medicine, communications, and many other fields. The students spoke fondly of their experiences and were appreciative of this opportunity. For many students, this experience assured them that they had chosen the right major in college and gave others a better idea of what they do or do not want to do in the future.

Row, Row, Row Your Boat

For the fifth consecutive year, The Academy of the Holy Cross Crew Team traveled to Philadelphia to compete in the Stotesbury Cup Regatta. Held for the first time in 1927, this is the world's oldest and largest high school rowing competition. This year’s Regatta, held May 16 and 17, saw a record 963 boats. Nearly 5,000 athletes from 180 schools across North America competed in this two day event. Even though Holy Cross is a relatively young team, they were still successful at the Regatta. A Lightweight eight person boat placed ninth in time trials and moved onto the Semi-Finals where they finished tenth overall. This was not AHC’s only success as the Junior four finished 35 out of 64 boats and the Senior four placed 29 out of 48 boats.
