JV Volleyball Supports Breast Cancer Research

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, AHC’s Junior Varsity Volleyball team participated in Dig Pink on Saturday October 4. Sponsored by The Side-Out Foundation, a four-year-old Virginia based nonprofit organization, Dig Pink’s mission is to support breast cancer research and raise awareness of the disease. Dig Pink, which is supported by many college and high school volleyball coaches and teams, is committed to supporting the goals of the Side-out Foundation and helping those affected by breast cancer to receive the best medical and emotional support possible. The Tartans, wearing matching pink shirts, won their pool play 6-1 but lost in the semifinals.

Tartans “Celebrate the Spirit” at the Alumnae Reunion

AHC Alumnae from the Classes of 1941 through 2003 gathered for the annual Alumnae Reunion October 3 and 4. More than 100 Alumnae, many from anniversary classes, attended Friday evening’s Reception where they reconnected with former classmates and met AHC’s new President. The celebration continued into Saturday with a special Mass where all joined in singing the alma mater’s of both the Kensington and Upton Street campuses. Mass was followed by the Distinguished Alumnae Awards Dinner where four former Ladies of the Academy were recognized for both personal and professional accomplishments as well as a lifelong dedication to the Academy.

All School Field Trip

On Wednesday, October 1, each AHC class participated in a different field trip based on the specific curriculum of that grade level. The Class of 2009 visited Emmitsburg, Md.,  first stopping for a tour of Mount St. Mary’s University, including the Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes and then visiting the Shrine and museum of Mother Elizabeth Ann Seton, the first American-born Saint. The Class of 2010 traveled to Mount Vernon where they toured George Washington’s Mansion, the various outbuildings and the expansive gardens located on the 500-acre estate. The Sophomores visited the National Gallery of Art where they viewed both American and European paintings, sculpture, photographs and other collections. While these classes were participating in their various field trips, the Class of 2012 spent the day at their first Holy Cross retreat.
