The Academy of the Holy Cross Hosts Cardinal Gregory for an All-School Mass
Hoang Nguyen Ortiz

On Tuesday, April 23, 2024, The Academy of Holy Cross had the honor of hosting His Eminence Wilton Cardinal Gregory, Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Washington, along with Father Robert Boxie, Chaplain of Howard University, for an All-School Mass Celebration. A familiar face at the Academy, Cardinal Gregory was warmly welcomed by students, faculty, and staff alike.

The Madrigals then captivated the audience with their rendition of the Opening Song, "You Deserve It," setting a radiant atmosphere. Ms. Prebble opened the event by extending heartfelt gratitude to Cardinal Gregory for honoring the Academy with his presence. Following her remarks, Cardinal Gregory proceeded to lead the First Reading.

This Mass served as a profound reminder of our commitment to awakening the spirit of service, not only within our faith community but also in our broader society. In his homily, Cardinal Gregory inspired our students, emphasizing that the Academy’s annual Day of Service holds significant meaning well beyond the school walls. “Tomorrow, you young people will engage in a service day,” said Cardinal Gregory. “Hopefully on that service day, you will earn the name Christians. This isn’t Antioch, but you are as much as disciples as were those who lived there.”
