Varsity Tennis

Betsy Heidenberger is in her 2nd season as Head Varsity Tennis Coach. Betsy has been deeply involved in various facets in the tennis industry over the years; serving as a competitor, WTA touring professional, instructor, club manager and coach. Betsy’s extensive tennis career began as a player where she competed on the Junior United States circuit and achieved a top 50 U.S. singles ranking for 18-and-under girls. She then attended the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill on a tennis scholarship and earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. At UNC, Betsy played top singles and doubles positions and was named Regional All-American in both 1981 and 1982. Following her collegiate career, she competed on the WTA Professional circuit. She achieved a top 200 singles world ranking, and is a four-time USPTA Mid-Atlantic Division women's singles champion.

In 1984, she became a member of the United States Professional Tennis Association, acquiring Professional 1 status. She was named the Greater Washington Pro of the Year in 1995. Betsy was also named the Maryland Tennis Pro of the Year in 2003, 2009, 2014 and 2020. 

A native of Chevy Chase, MD, Betsy currently serves as the Director of Racket Sports at the CCRA Swim and Tennis Club in Chevy Chase, MD. Her responsibilities include organizing instructional tennis and pickleball programs for adults and juniors. She has also served as a tennis coach for Bethesda Chevy Chase High School, Holton-Arms School, and National Cathedral School. She serves as a Board Member for the Mid-Atlantic Tennis Professionals, as well as the Tennis, Swim, and Fitness Committee at Columbia Country Club, and is an active member of the USA Pickleball Association.
