Varsity Basketball

Over the last 8 years of coaching Smith has been dedicated to giving back to the community while advancing the game of women’s basketball. 2015, Smith began his coaching career with PG Liberty (AAU) and never looked back. 2017 Smith went from AAU grassroots basketball to coaching JV basketball at Bishop McNamara. After this jump Smith and a few of his college friends started their own girls’ program and were ranked top #35 in the country on 2 different ranking lists. Taking it one step further the following year (2018), Smith became the Associate Head Coach at Rock Creek Christian Academy, where they were ranked Top 10 in the Washington Post for the state. Smith’s last two years at the high school level were with the back to back WCAC Champs, St. Johns Collegiate High School where he was an assistant coach. Smith is currently the Associate Head Coach of the Academy of the Holy Cross and looks to bring his knowledge and experiences to this program. Go Tartans!!!

Smith was born and raised in Hempstead, New York and moved to Maryland in 2004. While in High school, Smith played Varsity football for 2 years at Frederick Douglass High School. Smith went to the University of Maryland, College Park and graduated with a BS in Criminology. Loving the sports he grew up playing , he continues to play in various adult football and basketball leagues.

In 2016, Mark Anthony Jackson began serving as a coach with the Academy of the Holy Cross
(AHC) basketball program. He is now in his eighth season with the program. During the
school years 2016 through 2023, he has served as the Head Junior Varsity Basketball coach
and the Associate Head Varsity Basketball coach.

A native of the Montgomery County, Maryland, he is a graduate of Paint Branch High School
(PB). As a student attending PB, he was a three-year varsity letterman basketball player.
After graduation, he played basketball collegiately at Coastal Carolina University in South
Carolina and Bowie State University in Maryland.

Coach Jackson has over 25 years of basketball coaching experience that includes player
development and recruitment at the high school and the professional levels.
He is a proud father of two daughters who both graduated from AHC.
He currently works at the Federal Aviation Administration.

A graduate of Bishop McNamara HS, Courtney Young looks to help rebuild the program by bringing performance development and playing experience to the Tartan community. Coach Young played collegiately at Frostburg State and professionally in the WABA (Women’s American Basketball Association).  She has been an assistant coach with Team Thrill 15u team.
