Alhassan Signs with Japanese Professional Team

Former Gator Rhamat Alhassan to play for NEC Red Rockets in Japan.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida volleyball alum Rhamat Alhassan signed with the NEC Red Rockets, a professional women's volleyball club in Kawasaki, Kanagawa, Japan.

"Going to Japan has always been a dream of mine," said Alhassan. "Having the opportunity to live there and play the sport I love is more than I could have asked for."

The Red Rockets have won six Japan Volleyball League/V. League/V. Premier League championships and have made it to the championship match 10 times since its inception in 1978.

The team has also won the Kurowashiki All Japan Volleyball Championship twice and finished as runners-up seven times.

"I'm really excited to play for the NEC," Alhassan said.

Alhassan completed her collegiate career with the Gators this past December. She finished her tenure with 1,278 kills, 674 total blocks and a .423 hitting clip. Her 674 blocks marks a UF program record and she was only the second player in Division I history to tally at least 1,250 kills, 605 blocks and a .420 clip.

The Glenarden, Md. native was named the 2017-18 Honda Sport Award winner for volleyball and took home SEC Player of the Year accolades after senior season. The UF graduate was the first Gator to receive the Honda Award for volleyball.

Alhassan is also one of only two Gators to have earned a spot on one of the three AVCA All-America teams all four years in her career (First Team – 2015, 2017; Second Team – 2014; Third Team – 2015).
