On Tuesday, August 31, Holy Cross dedicated the Sister Ann Shaw, CSC ’56 Chapel in Moreau Hall. The dedication honors Sister Ann Shaw who has devoted her life to service as a Sister of the Holy Cross through many different ministries to those in need. The dedication is a gift from the Shaw family: Bill and Diane Shaw, MaryAleese Schreiber, Jim and Nancy Shaw, Amy Shaw Palumbo ’91, Jennifer Fosko, and Karen Ewing.
During a special ceremony President Katy Prebble welcomed the guests and acknowledged the generosity of the Shaw family in presenting the gift to the Academy. Sister Ann’s brother Bill Shaw spoke about the service Sister Ann has given throughout her life. This includes working as a hospital chaplain, serving in a Cambodian refugee camp in Thailand, assisting homeless men and women in Prince George’s and Montgomery counties, and ministering to the women in the Maryland Correctional Institute for Women in Jessup, MD. Joining in the celebration with Sister Ann and her family were members of the Class of 1956 and Sister Ann’s close friend Sister Patricia Parachini, SNJM. Before blessing the chapel, Rev. Msgr. John Enzler remarked on the Sisters of the Holy Cross and the legacy they left in their ministries of education and healthcare. Sister Ann and her classmates then entertained the attendees with a heartfelt singing of the Holy Cross alma mater from Upton Street.
