The Senior Project internship program has been part of the academic experience at the Academy since 1973. Every year, our seniors research sites, contact sponsors, coordinate the internship responsibilities, manage their 60-hour requirements, communicate with their faculty/staff mentors, and write reflections. The Class of 2019 internships took place at numerous organizations and businesses in fields such as medicine, education, engineering, law, communications, marketing, social work, journalism, and many others. For some students, Senior Project confirms their career aspirations. For others, it helps them narrow their interests or determine a direction.
On Friday, May 31, seven seniors presented at an all-school assembly about their Senior Project internships.
Avery Fu worked at Marriott International Headquarters in Bethesda. She created a video of her presentation for the assembly.
Yvette Kiptoo interned in the NIH Genome Research Lab.
Maura Lyons worked at Washington Life Magazine.
Olivia Young interned at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital Division of Neurology.
Luciana Rieke interned as an athletic trainer with the Washington Spirit women's professional soccer team.
Muna Nwokike worked at INOVA Hospital shadowing a renowned cardiologist and aortic surgeon.
Molly Sullivan interned at the John Paul II Shrine.
The girls spoke in their presentations about what they enjoyed and found challenging during their Senior Project. They also shared the skills they discovered about themselves and offered tips about preparing for and during Senior Project.
