Christian Service Commitment
“If at times you have a marked preference for certain people, it should be for the poor, the abandoned, the most in need of education, those who have less than anyone else. It is a matter of justice to give more to those who have received less.”
–Blessed Basil Moreau
Each student at The Academy of the Holy Cross participates in Christian Service Commitment (CSC) activities through service projects sponsored by clubs, specific courses, grade-level classes, the Student Council, or through programs initiated through the CSC. A record of each student’s service is maintained in the Christian Service Office. Participation in CSC activities constitutes one part of the course requirements in Theology courses.
Goals of the Christian Service Commitment Program:
- help students foster a spirit of generosity
- educate students about justice and equality through the experience of service
- teach our students about the love Jesus preached in the Gospel
In the Gospel we hear, “If you love only those who love you, what reward is there for that?...If you are kind only to your friends, how are you different from anyone else?” (Matthew 5:46-47). To this end, we require students to go outside their comfort zones and work with those on the margins of society. Students must move beyond the groups to whom they already have obligations: school, family, church, clubs, etc. We want our students to do more than love those who love them. Through the CSC, Holy Cross students work with those who are socially, economically, and physically disadvantaged.
The Academy of the Holy Cross students and parents/guardians can find more detailed information about the Holy Cross Christian Service Commitment by logging onto their Portal Page under the “My Information” and selecting “Christian Service Commitment.”
