Coach Pla joined AHC in 2018. Growing up in Florida, coach Pla has lived in Miami, Gainesville and Tallahassee where he graduated from high school. Coach Pla joined the Marine Corps in 1996 and served in Operation Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom as an Air Traffic Controller. Coach Pla moved to Maryland with his family from Key West, FL in 2011. Coach Pla has been involved with running for over 34 years! During his running Career, Coach Pla has run for local track clubs in Florida where he was a state champion (’88, ‘89’,’90), AAU Nationals 2nd and 5th (’90) in many running disciplines ranging from 100m to the 3000m; High School track and Cross-Country (’92-’95).
While serving in the Marine Corps, Coach Pla has run for the Marine Corps Base teams and was selected to run with the Navy running team while assigned to Naval Air Station Pensacola, Fl. Coach Pla currently has a PR (3:37) in the marathon set at the Chicago Marathon. Coach Pla’s training philosophy is to train the whole athlete, to help the athlete achieve the next level of their running career both academically and physically. Each athlete is unique and receives a specific training plan geared to them to get them to the next level.
Coach Pla is a graduate of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University for both his bachelors and master’s degree. Coach Pla has been a youth coach since 2012. He has coached in many sports throughout the ADW. He is the Grand Knight of his Councils Knights of Columbus. He has served as the HSA President of his children’s elementary and middle school. He is serving on the ADW Pastoral Council with Cardinal Wuerl. While not running or coaching, Coach Pla works as a contractor for the FAA. Coach Pla has been married to his high school sweetheart, Rachele Pla for 19 years. They have three children, Isabella ’22, Joey, and Alexandria.
Grace Davis began running in 2006 and was a member of her high school's varsity cross country and track teams. In college, she ran for the Towson University Club Track team but moved on to complete her bachelor's degree from the University of Maryland, College Park. Here she continued with her love of running by competing in several half-marathons. Grace is also an avid swimmer and taught youth swim lessons before becoming a track and field coach. Grace now works in Corporate Wellness and is excited to be back at Holy Cross for a second year!
Holy Cross welcomes Lance Van Winter as our Head Soccer Coach. Coach Van Winter is a Montgomery County native, who played and more recently coached at Walt Whitman High School. He has been involved in coaching recreational soccer for over 30 years, with MSI Classic and Maryland Rush Montgomery. Currently he is the Director of Operations for Arrington Training and Development.
We are also pleased to welcome back Jasmine Newman '14 as our JV Soccer Head Coach. She is a recent graduate from Methodist University, where she played soccer and earned several accolades, including leading her team to the USA South Conference Championship. Coach Newman has spent many of her recent summers gaining coaching experience with various club programs.
Welcome to Youri St. Jean as our Freshman Soccer Head Coach. A native of Haiti, Coach St. Jean played local high school soccer at Clarksburg High School and attended Salisbury University where he played on the club team. While at Salisbury he completed a one-year volunteer program with the Strength and Conditioning department, in pursuit of his degree in Exercise Science. He began his coaching career while in college, working with High Score Soccer, various club teams and most recently with Arrington Training and Development.
